|WHERE HAS THE YEAR GONE?
It may look quiet from the “outside” looking in, but MAPP and MPA have been busy bees with the legislation. Meetings with legislators, committee people, stakeholders, etc., have been going on all year. It has resulted in some rewrites and changes which most of us will be in favor of. Not much “voting” in the state government will happen the rest of this year per the elections and the short work schedule for the legislature.
In January we will hit the road running. Make sure:
- Your dues have been paid so you are on the email list
- Your email is on file with us (if it has changed, please notify us)
- You will receive “Action Alerts” for contacting legislators—when, how, what to say, etc.
- You will be updated of the movement of the bill through the House and Senate
- Anything else that you can do to help will be sent to you
We are hoping that this will be the year that it will all happen! The legislation project has been in the making now for nine years. However, talking to others who are involved in legislation and bills for their organizations, it is not unusual that it takes this long. A friend recently shared with one of our Board members that his group had a bill passed this year—10 years after first submission!!! Clearly, patience and persistence pays off.
WE WILL BE PATIENT!! WE WILL BE PERSISTENT!! TOGETHER WE WILL SUCCEED!!

BAY VIEW INN
The October conference, co-sponsored with MAPP and MPA was a ringing success!! We had people attend from all over the state—a wonderful networking opportunity, and a chance to talk and assess the needs of professionals in different areas of work. Feedback from the ones attending consistently remarked on the quality of the speakers and the timely program topics.
This was one of the first conferences put on by MAPP for a while, as the Board Members have been quite tied up with legislative activities. However, we look forward (especially when the bill passes) to planning more opportunities for professional conferences/networking in the future and to co-sponsoring more activities with MPA.
MAPP is engaged in on-going meetings with BCBS of Michigan to discuss ideas for the integration of Physical Medicine and Mental & Behavioral Health. Part of these discussions also include the role of LLPs especially when independent practice is obtained when the legislation is passed. As most of us know, as long as the eternal supervision requirement is in the mental health code (law), most third-party mental health payors will not directly reimburse LLPs. But in anticipation that the day will come, we are meeting and talking.
MAPP BOARD OF DIRECTORS
There is currently a vacancy for a position to serve on the Board of Directors of MAPP. So many people have expressed a desire to have a “voice” on the legislation, professional activities, etc., and this is your chance to do so!!
CALL THE MAPP OFFICE FOR MORE INFORMATION—WE WOULD LOVE TO BE IN TOUCH WITH YOU!! YOUR ADDRESS IN MICHIGAN MAKES NO DIFFERENCE (WE CURRENTLY HAVE BOARD MEMBERS IN KALAMAZOO AND PETOSKEY AS WELL AS DETROIT METRO AREA).
If you have positions available in your practice, clinic or hospital, MAPP has a “Job Postings” tab and we would be happy to place your information there. Any other information pertinent to LLPs—we would like to hear from you as well. Let’s be great “networkers” with each other.
