Clarence Goodlein

Clarence Goodlein has been in police service for more than thirty years and began his police career as a member of the Detroit Police Department. He is the Director of Public Safety for the City of Wixom where he administers police and fire budgets of nearly $6 million and directs the response of 60 police and fire personnel to nearly 20,000 requests for public safety service annually. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy's and the Southern Police Institute's Executive Leadership Programs as well as the Senior Management Institute for Police that is sponsored by the Police Executive Research Forum at Boston and Harvard Universities annually. He is a Michigan Limited License Psychologist who completed his training at Northville Regional Psychiatric Hospital where he treated patients with thought, mood, and chemical dependency/substance abuse disorders. He has served as an adjunct college instructor of counseling psychology at Rochester College for more than five years.

 

His public safety accomplishments include the establishment and administration of Michigan's first Citizens' & Students' Police Academies, development of a substance abuse diversion program for local police and schools, the establishment of joint police investigation and forensic science teams with neighboring communities, and collaboration with municipal and private partners to expand recreational and other learning opportunities for youths and young adults.

His teaching accomplishments include the development and distribution of a 125-page manual that reviews basic concepts of arithmetic, statistics, and research; creation and distribution of a compact-disk that provides students with PDF and web-based reference material concerning research, statistics, and the writing and presentation of research proposals; and distribution of extensive course outlines that promote students' learning and comprehension.

Mr. Goodlein is a 1984 graduate of Madonna University's Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program, a 1992 of the University of Detroit-Mercy's Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program, and 2004 graduate of the Oakland University Master of Public Administration program. He is a 1989 member of Psi Chi (National Honor Society in Psychology) and a 2003 member of Pi Alpha Alpha (National Honor Society in Public Affairs and Administration).

Mr. Goodlein is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Professional Psychologists. He serves as a committee member of the Lower Peninsula Law Enforcement Risk Control Advisory Committee of the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority and was formerly a member of State Senator Bishop's Intergovernmental Cooperation Subcommittee. Mr. Goodlein has served as the Chairperson of Oakland University's Public Administration Program's Criminal Justice Curriculum Development Committee and was previously a member of the Oakland County Crisis Response Team.
